History
Hollister was founded by John Schneider in Chicago, in 1921, as a printing company. Through the 1950s and into the 1960s, a new hospital products division developed a variety of innovative healthcare products including the Ident-A Band® patient identification bracelet — manufactured on converted printing presses — which helped set the standards for hospital patient identification in the United States.
Over the next two decades, the name Hollister became known for quality healthcare products, not only in ostomy care, but also in wound care, continence care, and hospital risk management. By 1972, the company was no longer in the printing business, but was focused entirely on the medical products industry.
In 1981, Hollister Incorporated moved its corporate headquarters to the current location in Libertyville, Illinois, 40 miles north of downtown Chicago. Over the following two decades, the company's president, Michael C. Winn, formalized the Hollister mission and vision, and oversaw a global expansion that remained committed to the policies and principles of the company's founder. Under Winn's leadership, Hollister developed and expanded its products and services around the world, and became a global company — dedicated to fulfilling the needs of healthcare professionals and the people they serve.
Today, Hollister is a global team serving the healthcare community worldwide. The company's mission is unchanged: to help healthcare professionals deliver better products and services, and to make life more rewarding and dignified for those who use our products.
